“Welcome, little listeners! Tonight, we have a Read Aloud Bedtime Story that proves even the tiniest friend can help us be brave. Let’s get cosy for The Lion and the Little Mouse!”
Deep in the heart of the savanna, a mighty lion named Leo ruled with a roar that echoed for miles. He was strong. Fearless. Or… that’s what everyone thought.
But Leo had a secret.
Water. Deep, dark water. The kind that stretched out and swallowed things whole. He avoided the river at all costs, always finding an excuse to stay away.
"Uh, no thanks," he muttered one day as a gazelle invited him for a drink. "Too busy... king stuff, you know."
Little did Leo know, someone had been watching. A tiny mouse named Mica, who lived nearby, had noticed Leo’s odd behaviour. And Mica—well, Mica wasn’t one to ignore a friend in need.
One afternoon, as the scorching sun hung high, Mica scurried over to where Leo lounged beneath a tree, avoiding the heat.
"Hey, Leo," Mica squeaked, twitching his whiskers. "What's the deal with you and the river?"
Leo blinked. "The river? Oh. Uh… nothing. Rivers are just, you know, not my thing."
Mica crossed his tiny arms. "Not your thing, huh? Come on. A big, brave lion like you? You’re scared of water, aren’t you?"
"What?! Me? Scared?" Leo puffed up his chest, but his tail swished nervously. "Pfft, of course not!"
"Right," Mica grinned. "Good. Because I'm going swimming. And, uh, I could really use some backup. You know, in case of… river monsters."
Leo shifted uncomfortably. "River monsters?"
"Yep." Mica nodded seriously. "Terrifying ones."
Leo gulped. "I—uh—guess I could... watch?"
Mica led Leo to the riverbank, dipping his tiny paws into the cool water.
"See? Not so bad!" Mica splashed around, grinning.
Leo stayed put, his paws firmly on dry land. "Easy for you to say. You're tiny."
Mica swam in circles. "You're bigger than me! Imagine what you could do!"
Leo took a deep breath. "Alright... here goes." He dipped a paw in—just one—and shivered.
"See? You’re doing it!" Mica cheered.
Slowly, Leo stepped in further, his fear shrinking with each splash.
By sunset, Leo was swimming, laughing, and—dare he say it—enjoying the water.
Mica grinned. "Told you!"
Leo shook water from his mane. "You know what, Mica? You're braver than you look."
"And you're braver than you think," Mica replied.
From then on, Leo faced the river without fear—because he had a friend who believed in him.
